illuminaries...turning data into information

South Yorkshire Postgraduate Dental Office

Significant Events Database

When the South Yorkshire Postgraduate Dental office decided on a new IT system, they called upon Illuminaries to develop a solution.

Daniel Kay was the project leader for the Significant Events Database and had the following to say...

"Prior to construction of the system, events were logged in a database and the libraries were painstakingly word-processed by Administrators. The process was very time-consuming and involved unavoidable duplication of effort by Tutors and Administrators. This prompted us to consider an IT-based solution, and we met with Tony and Ryan of Illuminaries to discuss options.

Our main aim was to cut out the duplication of effort and somehow reduce the inputting of events to one step in the process. It was suggested to us that a secure web application could be provided that would allow Tutors to access a database remotely and input their own reports, therefore saving a great deal of admin time. We then asked whether the system might also generate libraries, including a professional design and formatted content.

We have a web application that allows for quick inputting of events and includes an easy-to-use system for developing and constructing publications. The application has recently been further developed to make it even easier to review and edit data. It is an impressive system!"

The application was developed in .NET Framework 2.0 and has a SQL Server database (upsized and remodelled from a Microsoft Access database)
